Any area you are considering near the border, read the local newspapers and visit the area TV news online as well. You won't believe what you'll see. Corpus, Alice, and Rockport are cities now. Most anything along the coast comes with a price tag but there can be deals made if you're in the right place at the right time. If you like the small town feel but don't want to be too far from a big city, look at Sinton. It's farther inland from Corpus yet just down the road from Corpus. As far as being accepted, people are people. Some are great, some are just trash. Don't let one bad experience dampen your spirits. Most folks here speak Texas Friendly regardless of the skin color.

Where did you get yourinfo from???? I am originally from the Palm Beaches in Florida... Down here in the Valley it is peaceful compared to anywhere else I have seen. I have lived all over the country and major cities like NY Dallas Miami San Houston Columbus and nothing compares to down here. Its is one of places wher you can actually say..."where is the crime" (compared to big cities). The poepl will accept you no matter what you are. Disablities(I am a diabled Vet) is not a problem down here. The crime coming across from Mexico..well the only time you know about it is when you see it on the news. Besides that its almost invisble to 99% of the people around here. Those type of crimes are targeted crimes either way not openly random. If you wanna talk about a war zone go to Houston Detroit Philly Miami LA and you will see war zones. So take it from me I have live here going on 22 years from leaving the big cities its a whole new world down here. You will be safe and happy.
