I think once the do start this project it would be done a lot quicker cause of the reason why they are building it for. I think cause of the emergency proposes they will hurry up on this project.

Sounds like the tunnel will only be for emergency vehicles, which would hypothetically ease traffic on the surface streets by said emergcy vehicles' removal from city traffic.

I'm not saying it is not needed, and maybe it is just me, but this doesn't pass the common sense test. Tunnels are very expensive.

Good to see some outside of the box thinking though.

it'll be for everyone. from the original article: "The proposed tunnel will streamline all traffic, not just traffic for emergency vehicles."

That doesn't necessarily mean it is for everyone. That could just mean that the city is selling the proposal by saying that by taking emergency traffic off the surface street in that area, it will streamline traffic for everyone.

It may end up being for everyone, but you cannot make that assumption based on the statement above.

SA is going to be known as road contruction city soon.
Ummm....thought it already WAS "road construction city"!!! We can't finish one project in this city before starting another major one! I agree...should've been done long ago....before it got so bad. It seems the major disease of the day is "NOT PLANNING AHEAD"!!!! (my pet peeve.)

While that would make you happy, someone else would say "why are we doing construction in an area where it is not needed? Couldn't we spend those dollars somewhere that is already congested"

I agree, it's one of those where not everyone will be happy. Do construction in an area that MIGHT someday grow like crazy or do construction once it becomes a high growing area? If they did the roadwork, and the area was a bust, then people would complain about all the $$ wasted. Just one of those "can't win for losing" kind of things.

Definitely something needs to be done. I would have never guessed "tunnel", but hey... that is what other people get paid to figure out! Like I said, it is just good to see them thinking outside of the "just add another lane" box.

you are correct. that statement, taken alone, could conceivably mean that it will only be used by emergency vehicles.

so i tried to interpret with some logic and context:

1. would the city completely shut down a road like medical drive to all non-emergency traffic?

2. would the city widen medical drive to four lanes if the road would be used solely by emergency traffic?

3. why would the author use general terms such as "those who drive through...", "all traffic", and "traffic" throughout the article rather than more specific terms such as "emergency vehicles" or "only emergency vehicles"?

most reasonable people reading the article would come to the conclusion that the road will be for all traffic, not just emergency vehicles. of course, a conspiracist or someone with his mind already made up might interpret differently.
