I have a 20 y.o who wants to learn to drive, and never has had a learner's permit. I've been trying to find out what the requirements are for someone over 18....does anyone know?

All he'll have to do is pass the test (done on a computer) and if he passes, he can get his license. It's $25 dollars I believe, maybe $20 to take the test. They although two free retakes if you fail. When you pass they take your picture then give you the permit and after 2 weeks your photo dl should arrive in the mail.

They have books at the DMV that you can take home and study before you take the test.

My son has his drivers license but he just turned 21years old will he need to go into the office to get his license renewed to reflect his age or will he automatically be sent an updated license to reflect his current age

your driver's license/id is still valid despite turning 21 as long as it's not expired. it should always reflect his current age by way of his birth date. i used my out of state id (which reflected i was under 21 at the time ["big red letters that said WILL BE 21 ON x/x/xxxx]) long after i turned 21, and only needed to get a one when it expired/turned it in for a texas id.

but then again, i don't know much about the new texas id's (other than the orientation based on age) so i might be wrong.

Have I got this straight? If you are 21 years of age and have never piloted an automobile in your life, you can go and take a test on a computer and if you pass they will give you a licence to get in a car and drive anywhere you please. No behind the wheel training required at all? If so that would explain a lot.

No, you need to do an actual physical driving test before you get a full license. I just passed the required 6hrs 'Drivers Ed' class/exam and I still need to do an eye exam and the actual driving test before I can get my full driving license. I'm 23yo.

Your location says England. Are you talking about drivers licence requirments in the UK or Texas?
