Hello,
My family will be moving with my mother to the San Antonio Area. At this time we do not know which neighborhood area we will land in, however, does anyone have any experience regarding finding doctors who will take Medicare and the Medicare allowance (set price Medicare allows)? She has been searching around online and is concerned there may be a lot, if not most, doctors turning her away.

Thank you so much!

Almost any family practise or general practise will take Medicare/Medicaid. The specialts may be different. When you get a family practise doctor you can ask for names for a refferal.

Thank you Shane, apparently she read over 65% of doctors will not accept Medicare. Wasn't sure.

My mother moved here last month and she signed up with Humana Gold. They accept the monthly Medicare deducted from Social Security. Co-payment costs are: $5 doctor visit, $20 specialist visit, and $50 emergency room visit. You pick your PCM within their network and they refer you to specialists, etc. The plan also includes prescription coverage with small co-payments.

Hello,

I know exactly what you are going through. I was injured in Baghdad and the insurance I am going through is DBA insurance (Defense Base Act). It is similar to Worker's Comp....no one wants to take it! I've had all sorts of Doctors recommendations from my other Dr.'s turning me away without listening to anything about my coverage. They just assume it is workers comp! Actually, I am still going through the court system...needs lots more surgeries...

Good Luck and have a great move!

There's quite a lot of doctors who have Medicare patients. Of course, there are some of them that aren't accepting any NEW Medicare patients. It's hard for doctors when they aren't compensated well by Medicare. I have coverage that is also government-connected, but really haven't had any problem finding doctors and other providers that accept it.
crazedchef, I'm so sorry you're having difficulty. If you were working at or with a US military facility in Baghdad, even through a contractor, you should be well taken care of.

uuummmm... NOT

I spent three YEARS in a WAR ZONE, left Baghdad because I couldn't walk anymore! Found out in Kuwait City that I had 12 herniated discs...all up and down my spine (injured running from a mortar attack)! Came home with MRI'S and I am STILL WAITING!!!!!!

A combination of an evil insurance company, a corrupt Lawyer (mine), and a complicit judge has allowed them to steal years from my life (HAVE NOT WORKED, COMPLETELY DISABLED)!

The ridiculous reason the judge gave denying the spinal cord injuries was that they were pre-existing! NUTS!!

Complete physical before going and no problems in my pre-Iraq life with my back.

It is truly criminal what they are doing!!!

(new Lawyer, in multiple lawsuits cannot go into...working my way through this ridiculous legal system)
