I was living in a one bedroom apartment near Fulton and San Pedro. My girlfriend was living in Phoenix. I called her Saturday morning to tell her it was snowing. She couldn't believe it. I couldn't believe it. It snowed all day and into the night. I walked out and the roads were covered with snow. Monte Vista looked like a snow covered little town. I think thats the way it looks best. Cars were sliding down San Pedro into other streets. I just walked around looking at everything. Sunday I just stayed home. Monday I had to go to work so I took Bandera Rd. Not too bad but pretty iced up. I got to work but nobody was there.

You're talking about January 1985, right? I was a senior in high school. It started snowing in the afternoon. Class let out early and I went to work. Ended up stuck there for a day and a half. Good times, back in the day. January 1985.

I have a few interesting stories for THE SAN ANTONIO SNOW STORM.

My older brother trekked his way up to the Albertsons at I-10 & Wurzbach, somehow one of the newspapers had delivered stack up there. He bought all of them and drug them back....then he went door to door in the neighborhood and sold them for like $5 each...and he wasnt even the neighborhood paper boy. He quickly sold out

My Dad was a small business owner and we had to go check on this cold storage rooms (the extreme extended cold can make them go haywire and he would lose merchandise).
A bunch of guys from the neighborhood all piled in my Dad's '79 International Scout (the original SUV that can go anywhere). There were a few trucks out on Wurzbach and tracks in the snow...but when we made it up to 1-10..it was barricaded and pure snow with no tracks...there were virtually NO cars/trucks on any of the side roads...so we went around the barricade . It was so awesome 4x4 ing through a foot of pure untouched snow on the freeway. Everyone was using make shift sleighs on the hills of the old 410/I-1o interchange.
Around Wonderland a bundled up man walking on the freeway flags us down...he was a Doctor on call and got stranded on his way to Santa Rosa. He asked us to drop him off any place warm. My Dad said...we are in a Scout, we will drop you off at the front door of the hospital. So we made our way downtown, dropped off the doctor...made it to my Dads business and everything was OK. I wish we had pictures of our trip that day...we had already burned through all the film in the cameras.

What an amazing couple of days, we will probably never see something like that again in our lifetimes.

I was here visiting from Illinois. I was NOT happy to see all the snow, believe me. So much for a break from snow and cold and horrid weather!

Here's a video.

San Antonio Snow-1985 News Reports - YouTube

We had about six friends over when the snow started. They had to stay with us for 3-4 days before they could leave. And one couple who had come for the rodeo had two horses in their trailer that we had to put in our backyard. Typical residential lot with a 6 ft fence. People walking by were suprised to see a horses head sticking over the fence.
