A meteor? That's what the news reports are saying. But then again, a "meteor" is often the explanation for some instances unexplained phenomena in the skies.

Hence my use of the word "sometimes". My point really was more that not everyone understands much more about meteors than what they were taught in 8th grade Earth Science. I'm certainly not going to begrudge someone for not knowing whether a meteor can or cannot be seen over multiple states.

I guess viewing across the miles depends on how large it is? Size...matters?

I can see that but then again my 7 yr old niece, who attends regular Texas public school, knows that sometimes meteors can stretch across multiple states and have varying degrees of brightness.

But I know it's me. My physics background gets in the way of my normal conversation.

Many people also said they heard what sounded like a sonic boom (or booms) associated with the fireball, which was apparently witnessed all the way from San Antonio to Oklahoma City.

I was exiting off of 1604 onto Culebra on Tuesday night around 7:15 PM or so when the sky totally lit up and a loud boom was heard. It seemed like lightning but it wasnt. scared the crap out of me and I remember the radio in the car got static for a split second. I told my family when I got home, and they said I was probably losing it (what a supporting family ). I just read this post about this meteor , but what happened with me was on Tuesday night, not Wednesday. No storms in the area either. Anybody else witness this...still was extremely strange to me.

Anyone remember Hale-Bopp back in 1997? Sure, it was a comet and not a meteor, but it was an amazing sight up in the night sky! We were living in Germany at the time, and had some outstanding views of it. I recall it so clearly as it was going on when our first son was born...

Cheers! M2
