Default Hale-Bopp Comet , 1997,

I too, can recall that comet, very well Max. I very vividly remember the image of that celestial object. Son Phil,15 y.o. spotted it out the back seat of a 1992 Mercury Cougar automobile from a Missouri perspective. The object just sat there seemingly motionless, in the southwestern sky , the short tail of the thing visible, visible to me and my three boys. I was surprised because I did not hear of its' presence until he saw it. Remarkable I thought, just to be able to discern the thing out like that- at random from thousands of stars...

I can even remember back to Haleys comet even. In 1987 it was in the southeast skies, lower in the sky, closer to the Horizon than Hale-Bopp was- as seen from a hilltop off 281 north looking south near Bulverde.
I would estimate that it seemed poised over the Adkins, Tx area from that perspective. I had been waiting since a child for that celestial event. I was a bit disappointed as I expected it to be brilliant in the sky resembling the sketches seen in textbooks, but it was not. There was a reason quoted by scientists for the shorter tail on Haleys but I do not remember...

Cheers! M2
