I am NOT a Vet and know that your vet is giving you advice, but based on your "skin has not began to form yet" statement, ALOE has WONDERFUL natural healing processes...you can get it directly from an ALOE plant....just break a part off and rub on the affected area.

I echo the small claims court recommendations.

Hope your kitty is doing better. I adore mine so I empathize.

The vet has been cutting off dead skin - and trying to save toes at this point. It was extremely upsetting - to say the least - and painful for the kitty. She has been with the vet for 5 days with constant debreeding and cuttng off of dead skin. She will probably have no fur on the foot again, but - that's not the big part. I am just so beside myself that she is going through this!! The groomer has admitted that "oh - this exact thing happened with another one of our franchise units." Perhaps they should stop using the vet wrap???? She is going to need ongoing care - as the skin is gone - and hasn't even begun to scab yet. What can I do?

I'm so sorry to hear this. Hopefully you're kitty is doing better. My gf is a vet and I hear the stories from her about grooming "accidents." Although one is required to take a course to become a certified groomer, some places let their "apprentice" groomers work hands-on while going to school to get expeirence. Or some are not even certified by any means but have been working with animals for years thus making then able to groom. And sometimes accidents happen and someone forgets to remove a piece of equipment.

Vet wrap is actually a really useful tool when used properly. It sounds as if the groomer put it on way too tight then obviously forgot to remove it. That's just inexpierence. My groomer, no matter how busy she may be, and her staff do what I call a point inspection. When they return my bubba's, they look and do a once over with their hands to make sure all is good. Plus, they like for the owner to do one in front of them as well. So that is something to know for the future. Granted it is their job to make sure your pet is returned to you in the same manner as it was given to them, double checking and making sure work was done properly is always a must, sadly.

Also, I can testify to the use of aloe vera. There's a cream, the name escapes me at the moment, that is great use for humans and our fur babies alike. While, normally a vet would go against using "human" medicine to treat anything a serious as this but aloe vera's natural healing properities make it good for them. In small amounts. Just make sure it's mostly all aloe vera and not too much of the added ingredients.

And as for furture actions, putting myself in your shoes, I would take it to small claims court. But first, I would gather all reciepts, records of care, and carefully map out the timeline of injury. Take pictures if possible. Document everything. Get a background of the company where you took her. The internet is a good research tool in that respect. Once you have all you need, present it to the company first. Implore them that it would prudent to correct the issue directly with you. If they choose not to, then step it up a notch. It's the same as if you were in a motor vehicle accident. Even though it may be blaringly obvious to anyone else it was their fault, you still have to prove it was their fault. Best of luck to your kitty and you.

Can you PM me the name of the groomer, so I know not to ever take my animals there? That's horrible!

Dang. I didn't even pay attention to that. I guess I assume everyone else has tons of time to waste like I do! Haha!
