My mother is/was one of her patients. Dr. Jackson was very cold to my mother's disease. Unfortunately, I wasn't there when Dr. Jackson gave my mother the news.

Here's a review I found last night while searching for an ALS specialist in SA-

Disappointed with our first visit to the ALS clinic - ALS/MND Support Group Forums
That forum seems to give a very positive review of Dr. Jackson.

In my opinion, do you want a doctor who knows their stuff to treat the disease or do you want a shoulder to cry on? You can find a shoulder to cry on at many other places (therapists, support groups, etc) but you can't find a world renowned ALS doctor very many other places.

well, I'll have to just add that Dr. Pappert was great with my dad too (he ended up seeing both docs due to some rare sub-condition he had) but if your mom thinks Dr. Jackson didn't have good bedside manner, I'm not sure what she'll think of Pappert. He's pretty no nonsense. But go see him and try... On the whole, the whole experience was unsettling and depressing - but that wasn't becuse of the docs, that was because of the diseases. Modern med hasn't caught up yet and it's tough when you go and never get any positive news. I feel for you and your mom. Good luck.

Thanks for referring Dr. Pappert. I'll look into it.

I'm so sorry about your Mom's diagnosis. My Mom had ALS and Dr. Jackson was her doctor. As a retired nurse, my Mom was very picky when it came to doctors and she thought Dr. Jackson was great.
