I saw a report on WOAI yesterday evening that indicated the construction company was taken over by a new company. WOAI then reported that the schools won't be open till Spring? Anyone have a definitive word? Haven't heard anything from NEISD....

I believe the last letter I received had February as the date however I received an email yesterday that didn't include an attachment. I'll be up at Stone Oak El in a few hours and will find out and post later if someone else hasn't already gotten the info. We bought across the street from the school to avoid this mess but even so it's a little confusing having the Los Lomas 4-5th grade at SO but not SO. I feel for the parents dealing with it!

It doesn't look good for a January 7 opening. Here's the latest letter from the superintendent

Yes, I just received the letter as well.

Quote:
During the spring semester some construction work will continue outside of the school on things like parking areas, landscaping and outdoor courtyards.
That quote really concerns me... it seems like they are going to try to cram the kids into the new schools while construction is still occurring. They might as well have said "There won't be any running water, electricity, and the gym won't have a roof, but this won't affect students."

They should just let the Las Lomas and Vineyard Ranch kids finish out the school year in their temporary schools. Hardy Oak Elementary is fielding grades 3, 4 and 5 from Vineyard Ranch and it seems like worries about this arrangement were unfounded. They brought their own teachers, they have their own receptionist at the front office and the kids filled in classrooms that had just become empty from the recent school boundary line changes. I've spoken with Lola Folkes, the principal, and she's very pleased with how smooth it has been. The only thing I've noticed is a slightly longer car drop off line in the morning - only takes about 5 minutes longer.

Actually this is my Hardy Oak parent viewpoint. Perhaps it is a hassle for Vineyard Ranch parents to bus/drive their kids halfway across Stone Oak to come here.

NEISD sent out a tweet this morning that says everything is still on target for a January 7 opening. I must have read that letter with a glass half empty perspective.

The Jan 7 date is still on for opening. However, the building will not be complete/handed over on Dec 7, causing the penalty clause ($$) to kick in.

Schools ALWAYS have some inside/outside construction/fixing/repair going on after they open. But a school can open and function even if the grass isn't installed, sprinklers aren't running, etc.
