I love some of the subdivisions near the Bitters/Blanco intersection heading towards Huebner. I live in that area and drive by it every day. I rent there now, but if I were to buy a house here, that would be it. It's so close to 1604, and it's not too far from 281 and 410.

Terrell Hills, Olmos Park and Monte Vista would be equal to Alamo Hts... they are all pretty much the same in my opinion... old world charm, peaceful and beautiful. Don't forget to state what makes it your favorite neighborhood.

Glad to see you have come out of hiding... things were getting a little boring around here. Where is Shearer Hills or where was Shearer Hills? I bet you have pictures.

Lavaca:
Historic charm, nice lots, close to downtown (easy walk to the riverwalk, Alamo, etc), most importantly: wonderful people.

Not hiding anywhere cookie.

My dad built a house for my family there in 1957.
219 Audrey Alene.
Cost him $9000 to build it with his own hands.

Here's a link to current info on the house:

219 Audrey Alene Drive, San Antonio, TX - Starlit Hls/n.shearerhls

I probably do have pictures somewhere.

Here is a shot of the area from Google:

Back then, the red boxes were little more than cactus and mesquite.
The green arrow is where our house was.
Our street was a dead end at the creekbed.

Where I put the red X, was a deserted farm house.
Uhr's farm, I do believe. We called it old manure's.

Where the green X is, was an abandoned schoolhouse from the turn of the century.
Still had the old desks there. My grandmother went to school there.

Where the blue X is, was the Baumberger mansion.
They owned San Antonio Portland Cement Company,
better known as Alamo Cement, where The Quarry is now.
Dozens of peacocks roamed the grounds.
We would go in the back way up the creek, and head straight for the stables,
and ride the Shetland ponies bareback.

The last places I would want to be, whether I lived there or not, would be AH, HCV, Hollywood Park, Shavano Park.

I think, I would want to live in Westover Hills- new homes, not too expensive, nice and cozy, nice mix of people, close to schools and easy access to 1604, 151, and 410- heck there's even a college campus close by... and Sea World... and Ingram Park Mall.
Plus the veiw is great way up there

Yup, I'd want to live in Westover Hills....

Hi Mud... I remember that area was really nice. Had alot of nice big homes on big lots. It was hidden away but was in a busy area in the late 60's. I will have to go by and take a look when I am in the area. My Dad built several homes by himself... don't make men like that anymore. I think my Dad paid 12K for a home in 56. Hard to believe how much they cost now! Google Earth is cool.
