Out of those, I'd rate them like this:

1) 78254
2) 78233
3) 78216
4) 78148
5) 78213
6) 78228

78254 is contains Helotes and Alamo Ranch. Two excellent areas to live in.

To check crime in SA:
http://crimebase.mysanantonio.com/ (broken link)

To check on home prices by zip code:
http://www.sarealtywatch.com

The school districts would be neisd.net for NorthEast, and nisd.net for Northside. My kids have attended schools in both of these districts and they are both good.

Hope those are helpful.

It's a an older blue collar area as opposed to the other areas that are white collar.

I'm sorry but what does that mean?

Can you elaborate with crime and schools?

The Schools are in the SAISD district I believe, not sure.

It depends on the school, but overall the SAISD is probably the worst ISD in the SA area.

Crime isn't bad there.

Hello there,

I'm a California transplant. As for your zip codes:

78254: okay
78233: I don't know
78216: I lived in an apartment there for my first year and I did not like it because of the high number of signs at all of the stripmalls that give the neighborhoods a run-down feel, even when they are not that bad.
78148:i don't know
78213: very nice in Castle Hills
78228: "210" is right, it's not the best. Try to picture sunken car ports and rusted-out vans without wheels in backyards with weeds growing around them, and trash blowing around some of the yards. (However, there are some nice houses with character sprinkled in here).

With the exception of a few areas (Terrell Hills, Alamo Heights, Castle Hills, King William), San Antonio consists of a lot of new Costco-type houses in shrubbery-free developments in the NW and NE, juxtaposed against a lot of old, dilapidated places near the center that look like Kansas farmhouses that Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz just pulled the screen door from during a Tornado. Unfortunately, there is very little in between.
