Hey all,

So my wife and I are in our mid 20's and we have a 9 month girl. We live in Florida but want to move as we're in a small town with no real opportunity. I'm an immigrant from Ireland, and my wife is American with Latino heritage.

I don't have a degree, but have worked in banking (retail, personal banking stuff) and have been a manager in an Audio Video store for the last year or so, where I would do anything from Payroll to accounts receivable to setting up the computers and network to actually going out on jobs and installing TV's, Networks, Audio equipment in clients homes. Reasonably well rounded. I am however hoping to get in IT - I am currently working on some certs now and hope to be certified by Feb, with the move to San Antonio being the end of Feb.

My wife is finishing a paralegal degree, and I know its not the best degree, but its better than no degree, she is very intelligent on the way to getting a 4.0 - but would also be looking for a job, preferably within the confines of a law firm as a paralegal but would be open to other professional jobs - she will in 2-3 years go to law school.

My question is - with the job market it the way it is - is our plan viable, would we be able to secure jobs? We will have a small lump sum of money between 5-8k - which should get us 6 months of rent in advance if we cannot secure jobs before we move.

How is SA for raising a family - I know there is a substantial latin population, which is great, as I love the culture, even though I don't speak Spanish well, I like to try and I want my daughter to speak Spanish etc

Any other advice or tips would be great!!

Many thanks

Tim

Default Tim,

A much belated welcome to the Alamo City, Tim. I don't really know the job market in your field but I think...
Sure your plan is workable here in the City I would say only,I would not expect very high remuneration .
Be sure to look for work===== before you leave the Sunshine State.

I would say between Five and - $8,000.00 is plenty of seed money for a rough start here, many people come here with far less I would believe and you should be able to hit the ground running.
May luck be with you and your small family and.... Happy Holiday and bring your winter coats as it can blow cold here occasionally, more than in Florida.
