What is a good spot for us to vacation around here? We were going to go to yellowstone, but it is just too far of a drive for us this summer. Where is a good place that wouldnt require THAT much driving ? We don't want to do Sea World, Six Flags or Schlitterbahn or the river walk stuff . Too crowded in the summer and we have been there done that! Please give me any ideas.
Thanks

Kids or no kids? How far are you willing to go?

Judging by your display name hubby is a sailor? You could always go down to Corpus and stay at the Navy billeting there (reserve in advance, it gets crowded). Visit the USS Lexington, the Texas State Aquarium, etc there.

BTW, I have a spreadsheet full of museums/attractions in the San Antonio & Austin area. If you'd like a copy send me a DM and I'll be happy to email it to you. May give you a few ideas!

About a 9 hour road trip:

Uniquely Hot Springs

I had a great time there once.

Sorry, we will be going with our 8 year old son and 5 year old daughter (6 in July). Driving is alright. Yellowstone was just a LOT further than we wanted to make the kids go. I would be more time in the car than on the actual vacation! Keep the ideas coming we are going to look into each of them!

I don't know how this would be with kids. But i have been planning to do a little west texas/east new mexico tour. Big Bend, Mc Donald Observatory, Carlsbad Caverns, and Roswell. Still a bit of driving, but no where near the 4k plus you would do going to Yellowstone.

Camping could be fun! Canyon Lake or the Guadalupe River are some close choices, but there are great places all over Texas.
