Hopefully it passes and the artists chosen are a mixture between local and national talent. Also would like it if the installations on my side of town are not murals. That would not represent us very well since my neighborhood is starting to become more mixed again. Ethnic art is OK but art sans that genre is universally appealing.

Love it. Great idea. So many things we love about our city--the parks, the Riverwalk, and many museums and green spaces--have been built with the aid of public funds. This is what it takes to make a beautiful city. (Without the public art on the new stretch of the Riverwalk, it would look very sad indeed.)

Right now is when we should be spending money for new buildings, improvements and renovations. San Antonio has weathered the economic storm pretty well and construction costs are way down from the mid 2000's. If we throw in a little public art so be it, it makes the city a nice place to live and a way to improve how much revenue the city can bring in from more development.

also how about they fix the streets, you think art is going to help develop places?

I was waiting for the inevitable "all money not spent on roads is wasted" post.

it was bound to happen. i mean, when you live in a city where people really dont care about the roads, where people have blow outs and drive on steel rims for miles just to get home, of course there will be a crowd to parrot 'all money not spent on roads is wasted'!

dont be silly!

Yes. For example, the Museum Reach of the Riverwalk.

If the art is site specific (personally, I'm not a fan of "plop art"), like the awesome obelisk at the Fulton St. roundabout, I think it can help transform a neighborhood. It may not be the catalyst, but it can help keep the flames of revitalization burning. A road, unless it is a "great streets" type, is... just a road.

I'm not saying I'm against reconstructing streets (we fought for some in our own neighborhood), I'm just saying that to complain about 1% being used for art seems a little much.

I agree , I support this bond, because 99% is for improvements, and 1% is for art. We need transportation improvements, and we need art projects. Win win!
