Hello,

Looking for so top places to have Thanksgiving dinner out in SA for a family of 4 adults. Would like to spend time in the city this year and my house isn't ready to host or plan a dinner in. I've seen a options like the Menger Hotel but looking for someone that can commit on the options that have first hand experience. Not overly concerned about the cost as long as the food and experience matches.

Thanks for the assistance

TW

Take you and your family to the Raul Jimenez Dinner downtown and volunteer, and get fed. It's in the city and surely out of the norm, for spending Thanks Giving. Afterwards, you can hang out downtown and have fun.

I wish I wasn't the first one to comment on this but somebody must like what I write or I would have been kicked off by now. I come from a big family. As we grew up and got married the family got bigger. My dad was afraid mom was working too hard on Thanksgiving so he started finding places for us to go to. We went to a lot of places over the years but that didn't matter. I remember Luby's for one. Blackeyed pea? Steak and Ale? They all have Thanksgiving dinners. The thing missing is the home environment and the leftovers. I really missed the leftovers. This Thanksgiving you are about to have will be one you will never forget. We never went to Menger so I don't know. I think if I was my dad (he passed away two years ago) I would have taken us all down to the Jimenez Thanksgiving dinner down town. I know it is for charity but I would have given them a generous contribution just to be down there with all the attendee's dancing and enjoying themselves. I would order a plate of sandwiches from HEB on the way home

I'd probably go with Luby's. It's not fancy but it's good food and really good pie. I've never been there for Thanksgiving, but they cook that kind of food all year and it's good the rest of the year, so it's probably pretty good on Thanksgiving too.

Some year I'm going to go, and actually feel like Thanksgiving is a holiday instead of a really long day of thankless work.

From last year's newspaper:
Thanksgiving Day restaurant dining options - San Antonio Express-News
Personally, I prefer to stay home on Thanksgiving, so we order most of the food ahead of time, pick it up the day before and then heat it up on Thanksgiving. IMHO, preserving the holiday as much as possible is a good idea! And I don't shop on that Thursday or Friday either!

The St Anthony is doing a buffet that sounds incredible - of course the price is also incredible! $75 per person, includes champagne and mimosas.
