I am coming to SA soon as a student(Will be my first time in the US). How much money approx. would a student need to spend on food and transportation a month ? considering that I like to cook most of my meals rather than eating out also I will be living not far from the university ( Less than two miles I believe )

Thanks xxxxxxxxxxxx

Based on what you describe, $500/month should be plenty. You could get by with less if you're diligent about eating in and not driving excessively.

Prolly will be walking to the university if the weather permits ! Walking is some sort of excercise to keep fit anyway ! cycling is a 2nd choice as well.

When I moved to SA last year, I was surprised that the cost of living was as low as it was... less than where I previously lived on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
