just wondering...is this an ok area to live? we've pretty much ruled out living on the South Side of SA....just seems too dangerous for a family...

Based on what I read in your previous posts Lackland AFB there this would be an alright choice. The commute may be a bit longer then some people may be used to in San Antonio, but with little ones around you have plenty of things around to do.

Leon Valley is a seperate city altogether from San Antonio, much like Alamo Heights, Schertz, and Shavano Park. The houses are older and you could probably find a good size back yard for the kids in comparison to the backyards in newer houses. If you're here long enough the elementary school is Leon Valley Elementary School and it's a northside school. Most northside schools are good. This one is no exception, even if it is a bit older.

The traffic can be a pain on Huebner and Bandera at times, but you get used to it after a while.

Yes, and regarding Bandera Rd, in particular:::: They are now in the process of constructing at least part of Bandera into a 'double decker' road.... It's going to be a construction site for a long long time....

If I am going to be moving UP or DOWN Bandera between approx 2:30-3:00 PM and 8:00-8:30 PM, I add an extra 40-50 minutes to my drive time. Seriously.

There are some sneaky little back roads to Grissom/Culebra if you're heading for the far northwest, or Tezel/Culebra area... Once you get to Tezel, it's a FAR easier trip up to say, 1604/Bandera. These street names will make more sense to you after you've been around the area a few times, but I"m just sharing in order to demonstrate that it IS survivable during this keeeraaaazy construction time.......
