Driving home this afternoon, I was listening to one of the local home improvement shows on the radio, and one of the guys mentioned a new place called (Help me here) Podners ???

He said it was a po' boy type of sandwich place, and that they had the BEST Fried Catfish with Jalapeno something or other (sauce, in the batter, I missed that part) and that it was close to the New Earl Abels location.

Do any of you over that side of town know which place he was referring to, where it is (so I can mapquest it) and have you tried it?

He said they had clam, oyster,catfish...all kind of po'boys...sounded worth a try if any good.

Thanks much!!

You're thinking of Podna's. It's on my list of places to try some day.

Thanks so much! Appreciate the quick response, and based on his review, thinking we will be there soon to try!

I am so there! I just fried up some catfish for lunch this afternoon, but I'm always looking for a new place to try it. Plus, I noticed on the menu, they have a Muffeletta! If you have never had one, a muffeletta is some good eatin'!

Podna's is good, but not like your typical po-boy shop in New Orleans.(lived there for many years) New Orleans po-boys are so big, you have to remove some of the meat inside to take a bite! It's a hole in the wall place.

We tried Podna's Friday. We ordered a fried shrimp po-boy, a fried shrimp plate and a side of fried oysters. Everything was really good. Both the shrimp and oysters had a really good flavor and tasted like they should taste. (We never fry foods at home so fried shrimp is a real treat.) We will go back and try the grilled shrimp and shrimp and fish. I mentioned to my sister that we tried it and she had eaten there before she moved out of the area and she really liked it too.
