Small sidetrack ~ but somewhat related; Is Uno's (yes, the subsequent chains, not the original location) somewhat considered "Chicago style"? We had it at the airport in NC and thought it was AWFUL! gag! Maybe it was just the airport location that made it nasty?

I've never been to The Uno in Chicago, just chain stores in Ann Arbor, DC, and San Diego. I would rank them in that order too. The Ann Arbor one was my favorite, but that is also my most favorite city in the world and just happens to be where I'm from. The DC one was pretty good and the San Diego one was kinda disappointing. I believe that style is not for everyone, especially someone like my wife that likes toppings and can live without the crust. The Uno's crust is also slightly sweet, which is something I like.

I was in fact referring to the original Uno: Where the ovens are what make the pizza better than any of their chained locations. I agree that all of Unos chain locations are TERRIBLE. Just dreck. I'm also a fan of Ginos East and West. Both have teriffic atmosphere (and damn fine deep dish).

I wish we had a Uno here, chain or no chain. It's still far better then any Chicago style pizza I have had in this city.

Did anyone mention that Chicago deep-dish pizza was started by a Texan...was that the Uno's guy?

the same Chicagoan friend of mine said there's a great Chicago-style pizza place @ Blanco/1604 (I think). She's extremely picky (annoyingly picky at times), so I'm guessing it had to be pretty good. I can't remember the name of it, though.

There is Triology Pizza on Stone Oak, that has Chicago style. That might be it.
