Lonestar midwives deliver at St. Lukes and do accept medicaid.

Having had two babies via OB and two via midwife -- the OB encourages inductions when you get close, does not allow you to eat/drink, requires either constant or frequent fetal monitoring, requires and IV for fluids. These are all things that can stall a labor. Once any type of intervention begins, the mom is significantly more likely to end up with a C section.

I was also looking for this info as I believe I had an unnecessary c-section for my first baby and want to be better prepared next time. I will most likely be going with the Lone Star Midwives, thanks Gigi45!

I'm sorry I didn't understand. My OB swears that I've gained too much weight. She says if I gain any more I will be at risk of having to have a c-section. I don't like doctors scales for obesity and overweight. I'm an black woman with lots of curves, but I take very good care of myself. I don't eat a lot of junk and it's outlandish to me that I would have to be cut because my body is built differently than others. Hope that answers your question.

I wish that i would have looked into all of this sooner. I've pretty much done this whole pregnancy thing on my own, with the help of my partner. But my family has been of very little help. Anyway, enough of my rant. Thanks again for taking the time to respond.

The military discharged you for getting pregnant?

I hope, if you do find a clinic that will take medicaid, you realize if you are at all a high risk they will not not take you as a patient or that is what I was told recently from someone who wanted to go that route.

Now, I do understand what you are saying about C-Section, but I also think you answered your own question a while back, you are 6 months along, it is probably way to late to be changing doctors.

Nita

I'm guessing the OP voluntarily separated... I wouldn't think they could do that without giving her the opportunity to return to her original fitness / job performance levels.

And if you were pregnant while still on active duty, aren't they still responsible for providing at least some medical benefits?? Through the VA, no?? Of is it if you choose to separate they aren't required to provide benefits?

I was still an IET student, in the combat medic training program. At first, yes I was told that I could stay in, then my commander reneged that statement and basically told me the battalion commander would tell me I couldn't stay in. I'm glad that I didn't fight it. I was getting care through BAMC yet, because of the lack of income it not only became more efficient to find a doctor off post but I wanted better care. Some people are all for the military, but I'm glad that I opted out. My new doctor was astonished that I hadn't received an ultrasound when I started seeing her at 19 weeks. It's funny very few people have tried to answer my question. It's because I'm on medicaid right. Low income, underclass, welfare leaching...whatever whatever. Thank you to those who offered some suggestions instead of asking questions about me being discharged which have nothing to do with what I asked.

I didn't originally inquire about how you got into the situation; I only asked a couple questions about the information you volunteered to us. If I had any information about Medicaid and birthing centers I would have gladly passed it on.

You gotta look at who posts on here too though. Do you think "low income, underclass, welfare leaching" people post on C-D? If the average household income in SA is ~45k, I would bet dollars to donuts the avg household income of a C-D poster is double that. You're probably getting few response because very few people on here have any experience with your situation. I commend you highly for looking above and beyond the norm for child birth.

Last note, sorry

With all due respect your OB has probably delivered THOUSANDS of babies. She is not trying to single you out. Whether you agree or disagree with a "doctor's scale for obesity and overweight," she's the one with the experience and education under her belt. For your safety, and the safety of your unborn kiddo, you might take her advice seriously.

Once you decide where you're going to go and how you go about it let us know! We might get the same question again someday and have an answer ready to go!
