Thoughts? It's fun! A lot of fun! But buy tickets to get seats. And if you're planning on driving downtown rather than taking park and ride, leave early as parking is a bit of a challenge.

It's the most unique parade in the world. I've lived here a long time nd always enjoy it. I've been around the world and there may be parades in other places that are unique...I think SA's river parade takes the cake and the iceing.
Make sure you have tickets. the riverwalk is closed unless you have tickets you cannot get down there. the bridges are packed and sitting to watch is much more better!!!

Hotel rooms with a view are all gone. I tried that. Better to reserve the room in July when it's 105 degrees.

So were you all able to get tickets? We buy and go every year, the hotel (not anymore because of the economy) Hilton Palacio Del Rio, but every year when we go there are so many empty seats right there by the Hilton. The tickets we purchased were $20.00 each, not bad. We would stay at the Hilton, we told them we needed a room facing the parade and they set us up in a great place. We would pay for catering in the room and invite friends, always a great evening! Something to think of as a family tradition. Great for the River Parade too and Fiesta!

Evening all,

Since I missed the parade tonight, would the riverwalk now be open to the general public?

thanks,

Richard

Tonight? Yeah, the Riverwalk is open, it's always open, even during parades. The issue will be actually getting downtown right now, and then finding parking!

The lights will be on through the new year so you can wait to see the lights. I think they're doing luminarias again this year - Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, I think?

Default Thanks

But since one would need a ticket for tonight's parade (per official website), I assumed it would open up without one after all the festivities had finished.

thanks for the info!

Oh, yes. But a ticket only buys you a seat - the Riverwalk was still open to the public, even those without a ticket. Of course getting through the crowd and actually SEEING anything would be nigh on impossible without a ticket.

But yes, you can go downtown right now, but like I said, parking would be an issue, as would going up against all the traffic leaving downtown post-parade.
