Houston is much larger than a lot of cities that have had light rail for years (for example, Portland). Any city of any decent size practically requires light rail as a means of conveyance and growth, and right now, SA needs both.

Congestion on buses is a problem, lack of cohesive corridors is another (partially due to bus congestion). I think San Antonio needs light rail as much as any growing city does.

It's up to us to figure out how to take that instant "why?" out of peoples' heads from years of "cars can suffice" and replace it with a "why not?"

Many cities/metros much smaller than Houston had light rail before Houston or are now getting it.

I think had VIA been smarter and less ambitious with their proposal, we'd have light rail now.

Well, I guess, but my years in San Antonio were just fine without using public trans once. As a matter of fact, I don't even have a terrible traffic story for SA. Now as far as needing public transportation, Houston needs one. It can't afford not to have one. As a city of world wide influence, it hurts its reputation when getting around its area is a problem. Houston is easily one of the most difficult cities to navigate in the world.

Now as far as the "why not?", I would answer "I don't know, maybe the money could go to something more necessary"

The need was ALWAYS there, but the obstacles were present from the get go, especially in the problems they had getting along as a city at its foundation.

As far as traffic goes, San Antonio isn't that bad but it does have sore spots, like Fred road, which is a BIG sticking point since the city is trying to be a national leader in the biomed field.

I think houston is awesome, but I'm not surprised at all that it's taken them this long to get light rail up and running

Don't ask me, lol. I have no idea why it took so long. San Antonio's probably changed a little bit since I've lived there but I still frequent the city; still, who could argue that SA's "need" is different from Houston's NEED.

There are different types of need. SA's is the NEED of a growing city, Houston's is the NEED of a grown-up city.

Well then there's two questions:

1) Is this lightrail of San Antone's going to have frequent users?
2) Couldn't the money be put to better user? Because I think it could.
