Spraying, although popular right now, is not a good choice, many have problems with the spray used and it only kills adult mosquitoes, however it also kills other insects which eat mosquitoes.

I am thinking about getting a bat house for natural mosquito control. Anybody have one? How is it working out?

Egad, my neighbor has a swamp for a pool, I'm trying to find the best polite way to ask him to drain it. :\

You might also consider bird houses that attract Purple Martins. Maybe try to attract both.

We have a Barn Swallow mating pair that made two nests under our patio entryway about six years ago. A little messy, but worth it...besides I enjoy seeing/hearing them. They usually have two broods of 3-5 chicks each summer, last year they managed three.

That is probably the easiest way to combat the mosquito population. They are unable to breed without standing water.

Call 311 code enforcement on him; they will make him drain it rather quickly.

We (medically liscensed people in Texas) are on the look out and dealing with the potential and already knows cases of West Nile Virus. There are very good ways to protect yourself, and ANYONE suffering from a fever, headache, and "flu like" symptoms in Aug (which is a VERY OFF SEASON MONTH FOR THE "Flu" should immediately seek medical attention.

Here is the Texas link for info:

Texas Department of State Health Services, Infectious Disease Control Unit > WestNile Virus In Texas

I can tell you that folks SWEAR by Avon "skin so soft" as a bug repellent for those not wanting to use the "recommended" chemicals for bug spray....and I personally have experienced using "Super B Vitamin" therapy to help me when others are being eaten alive and I never get a bite. You have to take a B-Complex type vitiman for about 4 days before they don't want you at all...and if you miss more than 2 consecutive days they WILL bite (not proven by science, but personal experience)....and others swear that eating fresh garlic will do the trick.

Just trying to help....know I have offended someone or something in doing so.

I'm one who swears by the "skin so soft". I have used it for years and it really is effective as a bug repellent. I also take B-Complex daily along with other supplements.
