Anyone live in Schertz? (Live Oak, Cibolo: house, schools, commute to)

Would a commute to SAISD be totally nightmarish (for me that would be more than 1 hour). I am specifically interested in opinions of Clemens HS...thanks

A commute to SAISD in what sense? To a school within SAISD or the SAISD HQ?

Also, Clemens is in Schertz and in the SCUC-ISD.

I will be working in the SAISD (not sure where yet...and I know it's a large district). The school is more important to me than the commute.

My wife went to Clemens and she turned out OK (besides marrying me). It's a pretty good school with a good mix of race, backgrounds, and wealth, with a good number of students coming from Air Force families.

Ih-35 South can be problematic in the morning. If you use that route you need to be past Fort Sam by 7 or 7:15 at the latest to avoid the worst traffic. If you drop down to IH10, it's a lot faster and for many places in SAISD probably easier

Schertz is a fantastic area, lots of amenities and a strong sense of community. IDK much about the schools because my children were not old enough to attend at the time we lived in the area. I had never really heard anything too bad about either Clemens or Steele though from neighbors and church family.

I used to commute to the IH-10/De Zavala area everyday and I absolutely hated it. But I dont have a lot of patience and struggle waiting in traffic for an hour. SAISD area I assume would be further out, so depending on your driving skillz I think it would take at least an hour to get home every afternoon/evening if you are doing the 8-5 thing.

I commute to the airport,
and the worst time is when I live the hosue at 7:30am
and coming back the worst time is when I leave work between 4:30-5:30pm
It would take me about 45-50 minutes.

I live in Live Oak (get on 35 at Toepperwein) and teach in Edgewood. Leaving the house at about 6:40, I can make it to school by about 7:15ish. Leaving the house at about 6:55, I get to school around 7:40. These commute times do not include drizzle (add about 10 minutes to commute), actual rain (add 15 to 30 minutes to commute), or an accident on the other side of the highway that people have to check out (add at least 20 to 30 minutes to commute plus be prepared for people to randomly slam on brakes as they try to see the accident). Typical slow down spots in the morning are 1) entry ramp from Toepperwein and/or Judson Road (very minor slow downs and not every day), 2) by Wurzbach Parkway exit (again, minor and not daily), 3) about a mile or 2 back from 410 W exit sometimes through Walzem area, sometimes all the way to Rittiman area (minor to major slowdowns, but pretty consistent), and 4) near Fort Sam (minor slowdown) exit and entry ramps from that area. It's not a horrid commute. I used to take 10 instead of 35, but for me it took extra time because I had to take 1604 to 10; 1604 is only one lane each way in that area and it tended to get quite backed up. Being in Schertz, you wouldn't really have to deal with the 1604 portion...

Coming home - if it is a bizarre day and I actually leave school at 3:45, I take 35N back home. If I leave school at a more typical time (6ish), I take 35N as well. If it is anywhere between those 2 times, I take 10 home.

From Schertz, you have to add,
the slow down before the Cibolo creek bridge
the slow down going in front of the Forum, right before 1604
and the slow down driving uphills right after Toepperwein

From the look of things, driving in SA from Schertz to somewhere in the SAISD will take me just as long as my current commute in Miami...so that's not too bad! I guess I'll be adding Schertz to my list of areas to check out when we're in town!
