Can anyone tell me what's going on in the gay scene over in SD at the moment?

What did you want to know? The gay neighborhood in San Diego is Hillcrest.

There's is a huge gay scene in San Diego. Many gay bars and dance clubs, and there's always something going on every single night of the week. For a city its size, San Diego's ***** scene packs a lot of wallop .

Hey sjcassin,

I was wondering the same thing myself. I am moving to SD in April and was interested as to how gay-friendly the city is. From what I hear it is very gay-friendly and Hillcrest is a fun, nice area. I'm a pretty low-key guy, but it is important to me to have "family" out there (so to speak ) and to feel accepted.

Those links are great and it's great to know how open SD is

Good luck to you too on whatever your plans are.

-Dan

I'd say the city is fairly gay friendly. You'll find many homes and businesses flying the rainbow flag freely and without incident. The city council currently has 2 openly gay members serving. It has it large gay pride parade/festival every year.

An article from last year regarding San Diego's gayborhoods you might find interesting:

I jog in Balboa Park pretty often and have many times seen gay couples holding hands without incident in the park. I know this isn't the best indicator of the "scene," however from what I've noticed LGBT people seem very comfortable with being open about their sexuality in San Diego. Much more so than where I used to live in Florida, where seeing gay couples openly being affectionate in public was rare (with perhaps the exception of Miami).

Thanks Dan - same to you too! I'll be moving over to SD hopefully in a couple of years once I become a qualified nurse!
