I live in the Gaslamp & on varying days, I see an old fashioned coach, shaped like a pumpkin (it's lighted at night) pulled by a white-ish horse & the driver is dressed like Dracula's driver in a black cape & top hat. It comes down Island Ave near the Horton Hotel, then always turns left onto 3rd headed towards the hotels near the water or continues straight down Island towards N. Harbor Dr.

He comes at odd times... sometimes I see him on weekend days multiple times... sometimes I only see him once at night. Some weekday afternoons he's about, others not. A month ago, I was seeing him 6-9 times/wk, now it's 1-2 or I may go 1-wk without seeing him at all.

I always see him from my balcony & my eyesight isn't good enough to read the small placard on the back of the coach, especially at dark. The pedicabs are plentiful & if you want one, you just have to walk up to 4th/5th & one will come by in minutes, any time, anyday. When my little nephew visits soon, I'd love to give him a ride on the pumpkin coach with Dracula's driver... okay, I'd love it, too. Does anyone have any idea which streets he frequents and/or what his coach would be called... he more than likely has a website, but I don't know what I'm searching for.

Also, I've never taken a pedicab because I live here so don't need to... but, what is the normal cost? Would anyone also have any idea what the pumpkin coach would charge? Ballpark is fine... is it hourly? $25-ish for 1/2-hr?

Thanks very much. I have pics of the coach on my camera phone because I've run to the balcony a few times when I've heard his horse clip-clopping... can't find the cable to download it to my computer & am getting a new phone this week... drats!

That's the Cinderella Carriage Company. www.cinderella-carriage.com. They have a stand in front of the Harbor House Restaurant in Seaport Village.

The driver stopped and gave me a ride to my car in the Petco parking lot last summer when I was working ComicCon, and I got off at midnight.

Thank you so much for the link. I must catch a glimpse of the carriages headed back to the Harbor House, as I'm just around the corner according to the map... I'm rather directionally challenged. Can't believe I never noticed a stand before... combination of wonky eyesight & always searching out new espresso bars & not paying attention to most else in my path.

Very cool. It is quite pricey, however... don't even want to ask how much you paid for your ride. Best bet for us will be the 30-min harbor tour for $75 since my nephew lives in the mountains & doesn't see the ocean as often as I do. Can't wait! The Balboa Pk ride must be brilliant... $500 is a bit much, but it would be great for a special occasion. I still haven't made it to Bal Pk... I must go this month.

By the way, do you tip the drivers? If so, how much would you tip? 25%? Thank you so much.

My ride was complimentary, which was nice. It was late at night, and I was tired. I didn't have that far to walk, but the ride was faster. I'm sure you tip the drivers, but I don't know how much. Maybe someone who's actually paid for a ride can answer that.

Nice to have a treat once in awhile, yeah? I just saw the lighted pumpkin coach roll down Island Ave at 4:30pm. A night ride through SD would be lovely.
