I'm curious if the radiation can make it's way to San Diego. I've Googled the question and found answers ranging from "Yes, take precautions" to "Not even a chance".

I wasn't really concerned about it, until I saw every news station basically say "Don't worry about it". From my experience, and lack of trust for the mainstream media, whenever they bring stuff up like this, there's usually an underlying valid concern.

The question is, ought you worry about what you realistically can't do anything about anyway?
If we listen to every threat out there, we will feel pretty threatened.
Again, unless you are going to measure radiation in air , food , water, etc, then make comparison charts.
" Oh there was x amount of radiation in Solana Beach air , on Friday, how does that compare to Valley Center"?
I think it would be just short of insane to even begin to entertain these kinds of thoughts. You can't act on these thoughts as an unscientific generalization.. you would have to test with a Geiger counter.

In any case YES, yes you should be very frightened ( I am using what used to be called reverse psychology, but rather ineffectively )
Live your life!

The local media is oriented towards isolated, temporary events. They want to scare you a little at a time, preferably in an addictive, daily fashion while not digging too deep in any one area.

In-depth journalism may bore viewers away or scare both viewers and sponsors away.

Nuclear Radiation will always be a concern but until we put improved safety and testing measures (and the money for it) on a ballot and vote for it, there's nothing to do but move to the southeastern part of the county and cross your fingers (or leave the area) if you're really worried about it.

Hey I live in Hawaii and this is a situation where we're praying the Tradewinds will not be our enemy.

Right now, I'm more worried about whether or not I will get my unemployment check next week or get a job. If the radiation threat gets worse, I'll think about that more.

In theory, it could happen. But it is a low chance. And keep in mind, when the radiation arrives, if it arrives, the amount shouldn't have effect.

Here it comes...

A United Nations forecast of the possible movement of the radioactive plume coming from crippled Japanese reactors shows it churning across the Pacific and touching the Aleutian Islands on Thursday before hitting Southern California late Friday.

"Health and nuclear experts emphasize that radiation in the plume will be diluted as it travels and, at worst, would have extremely minor health consequences in the United States, even if hints of it are ultimately detectable. In a similar way, radiation from the Chernobyl disaster in 1986 spread around the globe and reached the West Coast of the United States in 10 days, its levels measurable but minuscule. "
