I found this:

San Diego Open Air Market is opening January 2013 in the Southwest parking lot of Qualcomm Stadium. Scheduled dates are every Saturday and Sunday throughout the year except during major stadium events.

Market runs from 10 A.M. - 3 P.M. Saturday and Sunday. General admission fee is $5, with discounts to $3 for seniors, students, military, and trolley riders. Children under 16 are free. Parking is free.

Please visit our website at San Diego Open Air Market for more information.

Market will feature a food court, certified farmer’s market, quality artists and craftsmen of all descriptions, musicians, and ample seating under colorful European-style umbrellas.

General admission?!?!? Are they serious?

No, thanks. Plenty of no-general-admission farmers markets. Some with entertainment (such as Little Italy).

I guess they'll find out that locals won't pay general admission. Plus, it can't be held if there's an event going on at the stadium.

The video was a little odd and I am not entirely certain what will be different about this market vs the other popular markets besides maybe more art work rather than typical farmers market faire.

I might try and go to one of them to see what its about.

Kobey's swap meet charges a buck or something. Not sure what overhead costs are associated with a $5 cover charge.

First time I've heard of this venture, thanks for sharing. Are they going for a Rose Bowl Flea Market type of thing?

I don't really know. I was checking the Qualcomm website event page for coming events to work at, and saw this.

Yep, I'm not interested in paying for what I can get for free.

I can't say this was not expected.

OPEN AIR MARKET CANCELED | UTSanDiego.com

I guess it sucks to be vendors that pre-paid that will probably never see this money again.

I was expecting this. I've seen no advertising for this at all, plus they're charging to get in. Why pay to go there, when the others don't charge. Plus, there are regular events held at Qualcomm that take up the entire parking lot spaces.

Me too moved. I remember back when you originally posted about this I was thinking I wonder how in the world they expected to be profitable on this. My guess was they wouldn't be.

I wasn't surprised when I read this article this morning in the paper. Oh well. Hopefully there weren't too many vendors that paid.
