Have the State of California implement a $10 or $20 toll on all interstates for those entering California from Arizona, in much the same way there is a toll for New Jersey residents to enter NYC via the George Washington Bridge. Think of it as Zonies now having to pay a small admission fee for the right to enter a national park. No skin off my back if Arizona decides to retaliate and I guarantee California comes out way ahead on that exchange while generating additional revenue for the state.

I just saw something the other day where there was a proposal of taxing drivers based on mileage driven on I-95 between Boston and DC.

People will flip their collective lids if that ends up being proposed out here.

The state already collects billions of dollars in taxes and we hardly ever see the $$$ put to good use. So another tax (toll) on out of state residents probably won't make one difference at all. Like if the state collects toll fees, our freeways will be in pristine condition.

Yeah right.

In the end, automobile users are heavily subsidized by taxpayers, and the cost of driving is about 1/2 of what it should be. Face it: The cost of overpasses, exchangeways, expressways, highways, freeways, overpasses, free parking, etc.... are in some way or another funded by taxpayers. Yes, we have the gas excise tax, blah, and yes, some money has been diverted to mass trans (to reduce congestion on roads), but overall, drivers enjoy a heavily subsidized lifestyle. There's no getting around it. That said, there has been talk of privatizing highways. I'm all for it. Let society address congestion as an economical problem.

Personally I hate driving tolls and see it as an inefficient way to collect revenue. Would much rather they just raise gas tax some small amount.

true, but how often do you cross the Arizona/CA border(s)?

So just for AZ residents? How about just their governor, but for any travel.

not applicable only to AZ residents....if you happen to reside in Texas, New Mexico, or wherever but are driving through Arizona to get into CA, the toll would be applicable as well
