Step 1 - get a job here.

Without a job, minimum 10K to hold you. Out of that you'll have to pay rent, transfer your car registration to CA (which can cost you!), food, and any other expenses that you may incur during the time you're job hunting here. And that can take a long time, so be prepared.

What do you do for a living? You can also check some of the other threads regarding moving here. Just search for move/moving to San Diego.

With no job and no plans to get a job, you may find it hard to convince a landlord to rent you a place. Landlords like to see a steady source of income.

so you are 19, you dont think it will be all that hard, you don't have a job but you are coming with a friend and building a solar panal prototype. This proabably isn't going to make one hell of a lot of difference. Yes, coming with a friend will help a little, but you still are going to need thousands of $$s just to get by the first few months. If for no other reason, but what "Moved" has mentioned. Most places are not going to rent to you without a job or will require 2 or 3 months rent up front. Plus you will have utility deposits, car registration and other expenses.

Just be prepared for a tough time. There are hundreds of kids like you who think they will come to Ca and make it or will live on the beach. It doesn't work that way.

10 years ago, you could do this, 20 years even easier, but not today.

Nita

Sure you might be able to find a place on craigslist and the place could be a hole in the wall....but at least you will be here. You also posted this in SD forum, so we assume this is where you are looking. There are plenty of places in CA that you could live for not that much money, but in SD you better pack some tight wads of cash.

Out of curiosity what does being from Florida and working on a solar panel have anything to do with moving to CA? Wouldnt Nevada, Arizona or even Florida good prospects for that type of work?
