Instead of hijacking another thread, i thought i would create my own. Since there are so many threads about moving to San Diego. Why not make one big one?

I would edit and remove my other reply in a post, but its locked in now.

I am looking to be near UCSD, community colleges, elementary schools and will be working near the east village area. What kind of costs should i expect on rent for a 2 bedroom? Would $1500 a month be fair? I only say elementary schools because my wife is a k-6 teacher.

Does your wife already have a job as a teacher here? If she doesn't she has little chance of getting one. The schools in California have been laying teachers off, and they have rights to apply for any vacancies that occur.

The unfortunate thing about all the schools in the united states, is none of the teachers want to do anything extra beyond being a "teacher". I only say this because there are thousands of openings across the country, even in California, for special ed and ESL. But we are not talking about teachers or in the education sections of C-D. We are talking about the costs of a 2 bedroom house/apartment/condo and a good area near all the the places i listed

It's unlikely that you'll be able to get a two bedroom house/apartment/condo in a good are near UCSD or the community colleges. UCSD isn't near the community colleges, and elementary schools are everywhere. The East Village is very congested, and if you don't have provided parking, you'll be paying for it.

On the contrary about the teachers - there aren't thousands of ESL and SpEd teacher openings all over the US. I used to work for a school district, and have friends that still do in all types of positions. You may want to choose a few areas in San Diego that interest you, and read the threads on them.
