Hi I am allergic to Sulfur Dioxide...which is from Car exhaust...I live in LA right now and am on the edge of asthma...am wondering about air quality in San Diego...are there parts that are better than others for that...I can't afford to live by the beach or I would....

Just looking for suggestions for areas...I can't afford more than $1300 in rent...but would love to be in a safe area but with better air quality...

Thanks for your input!

You actually can find places close to the beach for around $1300. What part of San Diego are you looking to live?
Overall, the air quality has to be better than L.A., but you still have air pollution in varying degrees. I'm sure google will help with this data.

I like to tell people about how, when I was a kid in grade school (here in San Diego), we used to have "smog days" when the air quality was so bad they wouldn't let us outside to play- that was in the 70's, and air quality in SoCal in general has improved considerably since then..

The air quality here is generally pretty good. It's pretty rare to to any kind of smoggy haze anymore unless there are brush fires or during the rare inversion layer...

There used to be, and probably still are, small pockets where air quality is a problem. Mostly where light industry is scattered among residential areas. Mostly south of downtown and closer to the bay (the older areas). So do some research about that before you decide where to move.

It's definitely looks better than LA, where you can easily see the brown, but I suppose it depends on where you go. Near the border to Mexico it is also hazy. I would say along the coast, in the mid to northern areas which don't have boat traffic. Some of the inland areas are pretty nice too.
