Here's some info on the income taxes...
California Income Tax Rates and Tax Brackets, 2011-2012
Property tax in SF is around 1.25% of the purchase price
The sales tax in SF is 8.5%--this doesn't include food from supermarkets, but clothing/restaurants and just about everything else. There's also a new added "surcharge" specific to San Francisco restaurants for employee health care/insurance. Utilities can vary depending on your comfort level for cold (I always had the heater running) and gas is probably even a bit less than in Hawaii.
Yeah, the cost is on par with Honolulu! It's crazy expensive there so I'm sure you're not going to be in for sticker shock if you move out here.
I don't think you'll have too many problems finding a job in the Bay Area right now... Hiring is definitely on the upswing in these parts.
