My boyfriend and I share a car, and it looks like we'll be moving to the outer/central sunset. Muni and bikes aren't exactly ideal, so I was thinking about other methods of transportation. Have any of you used an electric scooter? Or something similar?

I ride a motorcycle as my only transportation, and I think motorized two-wheelers are an ideal way to get around SF. Parking is a breeze, and even in the heart of the Financial District you pay no more than $5 or so per day for metered street parking (when the meters work, which isn't always).

An electric scooter would be ideal as long as you have a place to plug it in at night, which means you'd need a garage. Some landlords might let you stash your scooter indoors for less than the full parking fee, so make sure you ask. Regular scooters that run on gasoline are cheaper, and there are lots of used ones available.

Electric skateboard.

Or: My housemate is selling her scooter for cheap. Not sure the brand, but it's big, and looks just like a Vespa.

I was planning on getting an electric assist bicycle when I move to SF. I use my bike here in Houston a bit... but SF has hills. Lots of hills. Huff, puff, etc.

Just ride Muni like most SF residents. Maybe get a folding bike.
