Perhaps this question might not make sense; I've been going through online and saw a lot of people say that certain areas of the tenderloin are more concentrated with problematic aspects of that town, more so than other areas of the tenderloin.

I think I've decided on living in taylor suites, which is a studio on 250 taylor st (it's on taylor and ellis facing the hilton hotel there). Can any SFers or Tenderloiners comment on this? Is there a particular street corner or a set of street blocks that I should try to bypass? I'm probably going to come off work late at 9 to 10pm, and I just wanted to see if I should be avoiding a certain path on my walk back to the apartment.

It's not bad in the sense that it's right at the edge of where the TL blends into the Union Square area, so you just need to walk a block to the east and get away from the scuzz, but it's where Glide Memorial Church is so you'll see a ton of homeless people lounging around waiting for aid handouts.

golden gate and leavensworth
ellis and leavensworth
eddy and leavensworth
jones and o'farrell

Many more. Turk and Taylor is the worst.

How much is your rent gonna be for this studio? I'm just curious.

it's a short term lease, so it's really expensive...a little over 1900 (all utilities included for 3 months)

As a matter of fact, EVERY block in the Tenderloin. A lady was robbed there today I think. A 30 year old woman pulled over on Leavensworth to find her phone in the backseat. Some guy robbed her and killed her dog.

So, is it really as bad as people say? My yuppie-fied neighborhood in Houston is also a place that caters to homeless people -- all of the social services are concentrated here, churches feed them, some flop houses, etc. I can handle panhandlers, vagrants walking around, not leaving valuables in the car, etc. Is it really a huge danger of being mugged/killed? Worse than where I've already lived for a decade?

I ask this because I've heard many people here say, "oh, I couldn't live there, too dangerous" but the worst thing that has happened in all my years is some packages UPS left on the sidewalk being stolen.
