I just got back from a trip to the San Francisco Bay area. I was shocked how unchanged it was since I lived there in the 1970s. I drove El Camino Real all the way from Daly City to San Jose and was shocked that there was so little updates to the area. It looked the same as it did in 1978! A general lack of places to eat, no remodeling of the stores and the same mid 20th century tired look I remember from the 1970s.

You need to venture off El Camino that's why.
Burlingame, San Mateo etc have lots of restaurants and shops for cities their size.
