That being said, I don't think I'd park there unless I was going to the museum given the cost. You can usually find parking in most areas of the park along the streets (or on streets just outside it) unless it's an unusually busy weekend day or some event is going on (such as Outside Lands, Hardly Strictly, etc.).

Golden Gate Park Parking
No. There used to be a parking lot to the right of the museum, behind some trees or shrubbery. Maybe it's not there anymore. I haven't been there in years.

The whole area has been remodeled. There's an underground parking garage (after they changed the De Young and Academy of Sciences).

Op.... There's also a parking garage at UCSF (Irving/3rd) that actually has a shuttle every 15 minutes) into GG Park

There is the Merchant Road parking lot on the southwest side of the bridge. From there you can walk under the bridge to the visitor pavilion on the southeast side. Enter the Presidio on 25th Ave to Lincoln Blvd. Turn left on Merchant Rd. To see this lot on Google St. View search for 123 Merchant Rd, rotate the map and it will be visible.

I can usually find parking on the very small road called Stow Lake Dr. It is easier to find parking on the west side of Stow Lake. The east side of Stow lake is very convenient to the Japanese Tea Garden. Stow Lake Dr. is a one way loop. If you enter from JFK on the north you will be on Stow Lake Dr. East. If you enter from the south on MLK,you will be on Stow Lake Dr. West. BTW there are bathrooms at the Stow Lake boathouse on the north side of the loop and also in The Japanese Tea Garden.

Should I reverse that and go to GG Park in the morning instead?
I would go to the park early. By noon or one it will be crowded with people having their July 4th picnic etc.

Also note on July 4th parking meters in SF are still enforced.
