Hello:

I would like to hear experiences (good or bad) about people that is or used to work at Google specially as an Engineer.

Got my first phone interview a few days ago with a recruiter but I have read the reviews at glassdoor and even when most of them are positive most people say that work-life balance is practically non existent which is something that makes me think twice.

I currently live in Michigan and work as a Software Engineer.

Cost of life in the Silicon Valley area seems extremely high compared to other states.

Some people mention that you have to make more than $100,000 to live a decent life.

Thanks and any feedback is appreciated

My brother is a Google software engineer at Google's Irvine location. From what I know he is very satisfied with his job and working conditions. Although he does work hard, he still does spend quite a bit of quality time with his family.

there is no work life balance for software engineers who are paid well in Michigan, either.

I am well paid and work from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM with one hour lunch break.

I'm not sure where did you get that information.

It's not just Google, that's a culture prevalent in the Silicon Valley.

But you may get more replies if you post your question in the San Jose forum.
