Hey everyone,

I'm from Los Angeles and I'm getting some friends together to head out for SF in the beginning of April. We're all over 21 and would like to know some great spots to visit that doesn't have lots of tourists. Anything with great food, bars, local events like art shows, music, etc. What's the best way to get all the city? Is parking hard to find? Lastly, cheapest hotels? I don't mind staying anywhere 30 mins away. Also would love to here other recommendations.

Thanks

Well, the great spots in the city usually will have a lot of tourists. But, the Financial District, South of Market, Fisherman's Wharf and Union Square areas will have great food, bars, etc

You can take Uber or BART in, as parking is scarce and usually expensive (very different than LA, which has a lot of parking all over).

Definitely don't drive in the city. It is crowded and Muni isn't any slower than driving anywhere, especially around the tourist areas. Also don't buy the Muni tourist passes. The transfer slips are paper and good for more than you will need.

Do go to Japantown even if just for a short time. If you want ethnic anything, go to the Richmond District in the outer part of the city. This is another reason to not have a car. Also, go to Golden Gate Park.

Normally, I do my drinking in the East Bay. I prefer to be close to home and my memory slips when I start drinking.

If you are driving from Los Angeles, I would use your car. Most people in San Francisco drive believe it or not and with google maps, driving takes zero knowledge of an area. It makes it very convenient for seeing anything outside of Union Square and Fisherman's Wharf. However, I won't say anything more until the OP let's us know he is still reading this thread lol.

Change this to do not drive in the crowded tourist area east of Van Ness and north of Market. Muni is incredibly slow and a 10 minute trip by car might take an hour on Muni. Use your car to explore places in SF like Twin Peaks, Legion of Honor, Land's End, Golden Gate Park,Inner Richmond and Haight St.
