I've done some interviewing in California and have a quick question on my car. I have a 2004 Mustang GT which had an aftermarket twin turbo kit added on. It has passed inspections in NJ and Utah but rumor is inspections in CA are a bit more rigorous. Anyone have insight into the requirements? If I do need to sell it, I'm guessing I'll get more value in a state where it can still be driven on the street!

I wouldn't take a chance on bringing that car to CA, even if it was an OEM CA car. I think you could try digging around in CA DMV website re: technical differences, but i bet it doesn't say much. Better idea is to check Mustang forums to see if anyone has done this.

But it would be a risk. So if you come here, sell it in NJ. And if you come here, hopefully you are making enough to cover the fact that cost of housing here is pretty much like moving to Manhattan, so you should have a lot of extra cash, maybe enough for a newer CA-sold Shelby

Moving from Iowa actually... the cost of living difference is impossible to fully cover but we do okay for ourselves. Thanks for the input.

It's been a while...

Last time any mod had to be on the approved CARB list... and it still had to pass emission exhaust sniffer with dyno...

Lot of well running, damage free cars with zero rust have been rendered almost worthless here if they cannot pass smog...

The risk goes up exponentially with mods...

Unfortunately... almost all vehicles from 1976 and newer are affected.

Good you are asking now.

Worse case is you try it and fail... as long as you can get it back out of California to where it passed... you should be OK
