Interesting article about the gap between Median worker pay and CEO pay in the Bay Area's biggest companies.

https://www.sfchronicle.com/business...t-12870786.php

Google's median pay is nearly $200,000 as well.

For an executive or manager perhaps, but for companywide 'median pay', that's quite substantial actually.

For me, $200k a year would be life changing. A lot of suffering would end, but to stay on track its more concerning when CEO's are making that much more than the employees.

Proof that is takes an a-hole to be a CEO.

When is it enough money? 1B, 10B, 100B?

Who needs that much money?

No one needs more than 100m. If you do, you need to stop and think. Meditate about life for a while and discover the things that matter like humanity (which is not giving 1% of your wealth back), deep personal connections, etc. These CEOs are diseased and we glorify it.

I wonder what Amazon median pay is? I always heard about poor treatment at Amazon.

Amazon is retail. Can't that great for the worker bees.

I'm thinking these numbers don't include equity or stock which can add another $100,000 or $150,000 in value for a principle engineer

Oh yeah, stock options at the right time can seem like money growing on trees.

Important to realize a few things which skew the numbers upwards:

-Being one of the FAANG stocks (without retail workers as you see at Amazon), engineering salaries are going to be very high, with a lot of annualized stock awards (could be close to that of base salaries at the 6 figure range)
-Heavy concentration in the Bay Area, which also pushes the salaries upwards
-Facebook only went public in 2012; still a lot of people working there who got rich during IPO (moreso than Google)
-Tech stock runup has been significant recently in market; major effect on value of vested RSUs
