So I'm applying to colleges soon and I'm thinking about SFSU. I was wondering if it's in a good area or not. For example, is it like USC where the campus is nice but the surrounding area is ghetto?

Also, is there a lot to do around the campus or is most of the partying and night life farther north in the downtown area? Is there good enough public transportation or should I take a car?

Thanks for any input on any aspect of SFSU, not just what I have asked.

You can't really compare SFSU to USC at all. SFSU is primarily a commuter school, so most of the people who go there don't live there. There is virtually no nightlife there, or nearby. Its in a pretty residential area, but definitely not ghetto. The only thing nearby is a mall, and one little strip of a road. I'm drawing a blank- someone help me - is it Ocean Ave?

Parking is a freaking nightmare there. When I went there there were something like 3,000 parking spaces and 25,000 students. So there is a lot of fighting for parking spaces on the street, and stalking people in the garage to try to steal their spot. There is a bus line and a Muni streetcar that both have stops right in front of the school, so that definitely helps, but I can't remember how late they run at night.

It's at 19th Ave and Holloway in the Parkside neighborhood, which is decidedly upscale and not a party kind of area aside from maybe the Parkmerced apartment complex, which harbors a lot of students.
