We (my wife, I and our 5 year old son) r thinking of buying a house in the San Ramon area. I go to work in Mountain View and find the commute to be the major hassle in buying a home in San Ramon. Are there any easy commute options available? I heard about ace rail, has anyone tried it yet? Any advice/insight is much appreciated.

The commute would be 680 to 237, or 680 to Mission Blvd. (south) to 880 to 237.. either way, just awful. If you leave between 5-6 pm, it could easily be 2 hours. You could indeed catch ACE in Pleasanton, take it to Santa Clara and then get on a shuttle to Mountain View.

Why live in San Ramon? Given it's a really nice town but that's a bad commute.

yes, again Why San Ramon? I heard you get new houses there and has good schools/community but it's long commute if you work in silicon valley.
My simple logic is where do you need to spend more time? Comparing 2 days(wkends) vs 5 days(working), we spend most of our time at work place. On the daily basis you have left only with 8hrs and for me its waste of time commuting if I do not get 50% of that!

Again, It's personal choice what is best that suits their life style. I just do not feel like putting my life on the road!
