My gf and I just leased an apt in Foster city and will be coming into work in downtown san fran 3 days a week (2 days in san jose as well!). We are originally from Orange County Ca area, and are not real informed on the traffic/commute times here. If you could guess at how long it is going to take me to run 25 miles up the 101 to san fran during rush hour, that would be great!!!
thanks ahead of time,

chris

I would guess about 45 minutes during "rush" hour. Things tend to slow around SFO airport. In fact, it's slow all along 101 in the morning and afternoon.

From San Mateo/Foster City, it'll take about 30 minutes to San Francisco, unless traffic is particularly bad one day... I did that commute from East Palo Alto to SF on 101 for a while, and the total trip was 45-50 minutes. Usually it would slow down right around San Mateo, and then again passing the airport, but the rest wasn't so bad. My advice is to live just a mile or so north of the 101/92 interchange, since that's usually where the back-up happens.

P.S. I'd leave my house either at 8am or 9am (and sometimes not until 11) depending on the day... so that might make a difference if you leave earlier/later, but I think it'll still be around the same.

Have you considered taking 92 to 280, which can be faster sometimes?
