Yawn. Personally, I'm more concerned with the uninformed, misguided people that comment on the bay area and are totally clueless about which they speak. SV has nothing to do with the functionality of the bay area.

Nice try.

And on that note I'll raise your empty office building link with
empty retail space in Los Angeles.

"There are almost 100 empty big-box retail stores in Los Angeles County, according to a study by Rizika. They have a combined total of 4.5 million square feet, or about 78 football fields' worth of vacant space for rent or sale"

Retail space opens up as big chains shrink - latimes.com

LA County without functioning retail? Detroit.

See, it's so easy, and yet it means nothing.

Oh, but the biotech revolution and green jobs* will save the day! /sarc

* If you hire a guy with a 75 IQ to manually sort trash at the San Carlos transfer facility, that counts as a "green job."

Huh??

High Tech turned the Bay Area from a backwater to a globally significant center of commerce. Did you sleep through the 70s and 80s (or are you too young to have witnessed it)?

What's happening in the High Tech world is also happening in general in manufacturing and a number of other main stream businesses here:

Those are some really cool shots, but hardly proof to the OP's assertion.

I've lived here my whole life and you know what? There have always been abandoned buildings. In my current city there were even several during the early 90's...the BOOM time. I don't know why.

But I did go to an older outlet mall a few months ago that was practically a ghost town. I think outlet malls are past their prime, and were not very "outlety" anyway though.

No doubt times are tough all over.
