I currently live in Chicago and am considering relocating to San Fran. I'm trying to get an idea of what I'll spend a month using BART if that's my primary source of transportation.

In Chicago, it's $86/month for a CTA pass which covers unlimited rides on trains and buses. I checked the BART website but didn't see any monthly pass type things, so if you're from San Fran and use public transit, what are your average monthly costs for doing so?

Thanks.

BART doesn't have a monthly pass. You pay by the ride and there is no discount for roundtrips. It's getting expensive to ride BART on a daily basis.

On Caltrain (sort of like your METRA), you can buy a monthly pass. The train runs between San Francisco and San Jose. www.caltrain.org/caltrain_map.html

If you're living right in San Francisco, you'd probably be more interested in Muni than the BART...

Transit (SF Muni, SFMTA)

If you live in San Francisco, and don't plan to leave it very frequently, the MUNI monthly pass is good on BART within SF. Then there are stores that sell slightly discounted BART tickets, I think 15% or so.
