The Rag was an underground newspaper that was published in Austin, Tx. from 1966-1977.Can anyone give me information as to where I can get/see a copy of the 7/17/1967 issue? I have been to the Houston library and online with no luck. I live out of Texas now and cannot afford to travel to Austin. Any help would be appreciated. Their website shows only the first 12 issues that one can search page by page. Thanks.

Did you ask the local librarian? A lot of times these things are on microfilm, and if they don't have it there, the librarian can request it from where they do have it. There might be a small fee for that service. A couple of weeks later you will have your article.

Just make sure you pick a microfilm machine that allows you to copy from it -- the last time I used microfilm there was a choice (Of course that was the stone age!)-- and take plenty of change.

I live in a very small town with a small library but that's a good idea that I haven't thought of trying. Thanks!

Default Libraries that Have It: The Rag.

Here is The Rag holdings list, the closest library to you that has it appears to be:
SUMMARY HOLDING: Tougaloo Col, Tougaloo, MS

Libraries that Have It: The Rag. - Chronicling America - The Library of Congress

About this Newspaper: The Rag. - Chronicling America - The Library of Congress

Maybe you can call and bribe them for a copy? Good Luck.

Thanks Mach50, the link to the place in Ms. seems to be my best bet. I'll sure give it a try and if our library doesn't have a microfilm machine it will be a closer drive from where I live.

I found the article from The Rag newspaper! Of course it's slanted in the protesters favor but I was there. I know what really happened. Thanks for the replies. Now I can search for the local newspaper articles of July 9th and 10th of 1967.
