Who can give me two or three reasons to live in San Jose?

I used to live on the Peninsula, moved away, and and thinking about returning.

1. Proximity to the Coast
2. Proximity to the Sierras
3. Pretty nice weather year round

Of course this list will vary per individual depending on what one likes. My list involves enjoying the outdoors which I find important.

What is it that you enjoyed and/or miss while living out here?

I live in Monterey BTW. But its close enough for some SJ residents to commute to the same place I work in Seaside. Although they carpool its further than I'd want to commute.

Derek

1. Weather. Conductive to spending lots of time in the beautiful outdoors. You can do the following.
-Hiking such as at Rancho San Antonio on the west side of the Valley, and Alum Rock Park on the east side of the Valley.
-Music in the Park festivals throughout the summer in certain neighborhoods and a large one downtown.
-Farmer's markets
-Outdoor shopping such as Santana Row.
2. Scenery. Spectacular mountains on both sides.
3. Proximity to other nice places.
4. Safe city.
5. Relaxed lifestyle.
6. Diversity. Find all types of people, all living together peacefully, it is wonderful.
7. Great food. Mostly because of its awesome diversity. Try the following:
-Lee's Sandwich (Vietnamese sandwiches)
-Steven's Creek Falafal Drive In (Middle Eastern/Mediterranean food. Best falafal's in the Bay Area)
-Govea's Taqueria, La Victoria (Mexican)
- Numerous Indian restaurants. Also Chinese, Ethiopian, Hawaiian, Japanese Cuisine is available ect. The list can go on and on.
8. Nightlife. Downtown SJ has changed a lot in the past decade. Great place to dine, grab a drink, go dancing.
9. Big tech jobs.
10. Opportunity to watch professional sports, ie The San Jose Sharks. Also not too far from MLB and NFL games (in fact in the future it will be even closer to San Jose with the A's move to Fremont and the 49er's possible move to Santa Clara).

The list can go on. But I think that is pretty comprehensive.

Berkeley is hardly a suburb of SJ.

I've lived in the Bay Area all my life but only been in San Jose since the beginning of 2009. I like seeing Mt. Hamilton when I'm coming home, but the feeling of crowdedness is starting to wear on me. Getting anywhere is a monumental pain, and though I don't live on a major road, there's still constant, and disrespectfully noisy, traffic at all hours. I might like it more if my bedroom wasn't on the corner facing the street, but still, it wasn't even this noisy when I was living on Jefferson Ave in Redwood City, which is one of the busiest thoroughfares in that city.
