So, I've been living in San Jose for 8 months now, and it's not for me.

I'm a 26 year old single guy who just finds its slightly boring.

I'm planning on moving in the next few months and commuting to SJ for work - the thing is, I'm torn between Santa Cruz and San Francisco.

I've been doing the pros and cons for each, but can't make a decision.

In the eight months I've been in SJ, I find myself in Santa Cruz every weekend surfing. But commuting to SJ on the 17 and is there much of a social scene for a 26 year old single guy there? I don't know, and I can't find much info Googling…

Then theres SF. Plenty of opportunities for socializing, and also my favorite - live music! At the end of the day its SF - exciting with plenty things to do etc…
Also, work provides a shuttle bus from SF to SJ…takes a lot of pressure off the commute.

I am torn between the two. Any advice from people who lived in either or both and have done the commute?

Any advice, pros/cons etc are appreciated!

I had a similar dilemma once. Ended up making a list with the pluses and minuses of each city. The city with the most pluses won, and I'm happy.

Good luck to you.

Another slacker who wants it ALL. Move anywhere you like and enjoy the wasted hours of daily commuting.

Pretty much already decided then, it would appear. Definitely has its share of good music.

Might have to get used to the idea of braving Maverick's for surfing though, unless you really want to drive all the way to SC every week. Too much of a locals-only scene, anyway.

What you should do is move to SF. Once you're there get used to the surf scene at Ocean Beach, under the bridge, and down in Pacifica, Montara, etc. You still have the option on the weekend to head down to Half Moon Bay or Santa Cruz.

You are young and want to live in a place that has energy and vibe. That place is not SJ and definitely not Santa Cruz. I like Santa Cruz myself, but it is really sleepy. You don't want to be hanging around with the university crowd, so SF is where you want to be. Living in SF gives you access to places like Berkeley, Sausalito, Marin, Napa, etc.

The OP is 26 and looking for an exciting place to live - those were the terms of his question. If it's not for you, why intrude with pointless comments?
